From the same team that created the hugely successful stage adaptation of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin - Picasso & Me is an enchanting tale about fathers and sons – Picasso’s father and Picasso’s sons and also the narrator’s.

In the sixties, a young lad, on the hippy trail, hitches a lift from a photographer who takes him to Picasso’s house.  Picasso paints the boy’s portrait.  Fast forward to the present day and he thinks he sees this portrait in a junk shop in Paris – the same one Picasso did of him all these years ago.  Of course, it couldn’t possibly be … but this portrait reminds him of that day in the South of France.  He remembers the paintings he saw in Picasso’s house and begins to think about his own father and his own sons.

Simplicity, honest charm and fun are keynotes of Mike Maran’s performances, which are always beautifully crafted.  He cleverly mixes music with his text and, for this show he has teamed up with composer, Karen Wimhurst, to create an original soundtrack to illustrate and punctuate the tale.

‘Mike Maran has the kind of voice that makes you wonder why the whole world isn’t learning to speak with a Scottish accent,’ said The Scotsman of ‘Did You Used to be R.D.Laing?’
