FRIDAY 6th July  IRISH IN LONDON NIGHT

FINBARR WALL
Born in Dublin, from a Cavan/Dublin family, Finbarr was brought up in Lancashire and moved to London in the 1960s.  Finbarr is a great song enthusiast with a fine voice and an ear for a good song. He has an eclectic selection of traditional and contemporary Irish songs and has introduced little-known songs from writers such as Mickey MacConnell, Liam Weldon, Con O’Drisceoil and Bryan O’Rourke as well as several of his own composition.  His "Song of the Holloway Road" (where Finbarr has lived for the past 30 years) is a long-overdue tribute to the thriving Irish scene in the pubs of London N19 in the 60s and 70s and a wry observation of recent changes.               plus
SHEENA VALLELY  with Rob Truswell and John Say
Sheena is from Armagh in Northern Ireland. A fine flute and tin whistle player and familiar face on the Irish Music scene in London, she has performed at the annual Return to Camden Town Festival as well as at The Musical Traditions Club  as you may remember on one occasion when she and John Say accompanied the very fine flute playing and singing of her brother Fintan. Sheena has played many gigs and sessions in Ireland with a number of well known musicians among them Jackie Daly,Jimmy Crowley, Tim Lyons, Johnny Moynihan, Andrew McNamara and Brendan Hearty. Sheena is currently recording with  Berlin based Midnight Court  and  for  World Trad. label series "Flute Obsessions". Sheena and John's playing (on bodhran) together has matured  over a good many years and recently their music has been given an extra sweetness with the playing of Yorkshire guitarist Rob Truswell.
