26th June ~ Geoff Achison
Importance: High
I'm bashing this out at just after 7:00am after our
amazing gig last night......Toby & Mike were
nothing short of incredible...individually they were each a tour de force but
when they came together on-stage at the end of the evening we really saw what
the term "virtuoso" means. They threw together a bunch of numbers at very
short notice (they only met for the first time at 6:00pm that night) & it
didn't matter whether it was swing, bluegrass or blues....they swapped licks
& had a ball. It was a real pleasure to be present in such exulted
company. Mike's tour continues into June & Toby flies back to The
States tomorrow Thurs. He sends his best wishes & thanks for making
him feel so welcome.....his site www.littletobywalker.com will soon
have a bunch of pics & reminiscences of his tour I'm
sure.
And so on to the next
one.
Geoff Achison & The
Souldiggers will require little introduction to most of you....He
arrives on the 20th June & we hit the road on the 21st starting at The New
Crawdaddy Club, Basildon.....after which we travel all over the country on a 3
week + tour....I think this is his 12th UK tour or close to it....I'm roadie
& butler to the band so no change there!
Geoff's gig at The Bottleneck is on Tues 26th June & I have
NO seats or tables left as I write this. However I
won't turn you away if you don't mind standing & there are always a few
no-shows so I might be able to sit you down but that is a chance you must
take.
In the club tradition of ONLY presenting what I
consider to be World Class music Geoff is right up
there & his hand-picked band The Souldiggers are simply amongst the best
musicians you'll hope to hear.....Sam Kelly ~ lead drums, Dave
Clarke ~ the great big throbbing thing (as Geoff calls it, you might call it a
Bass) & Paul Jobson on the jolly old ivories. They make
a formidable team but also love what they do & it shows all the time they're
on-stage.
This will be an evening, yet again, of freestyle,
virtuosic music & what actually comes out of the mix on the night will be
down to the boys.....don't ask me!!
Right folks, that'll do for starters, I'll give you a
bit more info on the actual tour schedule when I get back from a short break in
Mike & Helen's lovely villa in Dalyan, Turkey www.villaindalyan.com It's 80f
(much more accurate than Celsius) out there now....bugger ~ I guess I'll just
have to suffer!!
Thanks for your continued support....& thanks
also to all the other venues that book my guys & make these tours
happen.
John
