DRUMMING UP A STORM
FREE MUSIC WORKSHOPS

AT THE LANTERN STUDIOS
Mountbatten School, Whitenap Lane, Romsey, Hampshire SO51 5SY

No previous music experience necessary & no need to read music!

Are you aged between 10 and 18? 

Fancy having a go at making some music for the first time?

Already making music but fancy using your music skills to do something different?

Available on all (or any) of these dates:

Monday 14 May - workshop 4-6pm
Monday 21 May - workshop 4-6pm
Monday 4 June - workshop 4-6pm
Monday 11 June - workshop 4-6pm
Monday 18 June - workshop 4-6pm
Monday 2 July - workshop 4-6pm
Monday 9 July - rehearsal 4-6pm & 7-8.30pm performance

Then come & join us!

At each session work with Paul Midgley (Ethnic & Junk Percussionist) and Tom Fairbairn (Multi-Instrumentalist) to create something new and exciting. 

If you’ve never played before then come along and learn how to play different hand drums and rhythms with Paul who will be joined by Iqbal Khan Pathan (Indian & Middle-Eastern Percussionist) or
Musa Mboob (African Percussionist) at each session.  Already play drums / percussion and want to try something different?  Then come along and give it a go!  If you already play a tuned instrument (guitar, bass, violin, keyboards etc) then come and learn some new tunes and styles with Tom to accompany and work with the drumming.

Celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the abolition of slavery, Boka Halat's fascinating programme reveals the elements of music, dance and song that blended together in the Caribbean in the 18th and 19th centuries. Join in and explore the English and African roots of sea shanties and Caribbean quadrilles, and discover a new and exciting musical mix that draws on English, West African and Indian traditions. Boka Halat have been wowing young audiences since 1999. Look with them towards a richly rewarding intercultural future.
