The Black Horse
Festival is once again at Telham on the A2100 between Hastings and
Battle. Telham in the
beautiful Sussex Countryside is a small church, a pub with a handful of
cottages and houses except during the BankHoliday at the end of
May each year when thousands of music fans descend to enjoy a fantastic
weekend there.
“THE BIGGEST LITTLE FESTIVAL IN
BRITAIN” GOES
LARGE
This year The 19th Black
Horse Festival 2007 May 25th -
May 28th sees a
four day line up of some of the biggest names and largest bands in the
festival’s nineteen year history. The festival evolved from a
reunion of the folk club and attempts to keep traditional and traditional
influenced music to the fore. Saturday is THE Folk Day with
headliners Waterson Carthy, Norma Waterson, Martin Carthy, Eliza Carthy
and Saul Rose following their triumph at The Albert Hall sharing the day with
The Fold, Waking The Witch, Queensbury Rules, Band of Two,
The Simon Hopper Band, Titus,
Kokepelli, Logan Wilson, Hettie Dengate, Bit on the Side and
others.
The Blockheads and The Wilko
Johnson band with their late 20th century "Urban" sounds are on
Friday
On Sunday The World Music Day is
filled with a variety of music from around the globe.
The festival is flying
in Mauritanian Daby Toure and his Band for this their only date, while
African Hi-Life outfit Osibisa (Sunshine Day), Roots legends Baka Beyond,
Boum! (France) and
le Trio Perdu (Belgium) are
amongst the "world" artists making their way to the festival’s big
marquee.
Some of them will not only fill
the marquee with fans but will also fill the stage!
The Festival closes with on
Bank Holiday Monday evening with a party atmosphere including some young folk
influenced bands and indie bands in the afternoon.
However it is "The weekend
days" of Saturday and Sunday will be of great interest to your
members.
This has to be the cheapest top
quality festival in Britain with
passes (in advance) at only £12 for Friday, £16 for Saturday, and £18 for
Sunday. Tickets for Monday Afternoon are £5 and for the party in the evening
only £8 with a very limited number of entire weekend passes at only £45.
Tickets and all the information of the acts (there are nearly 30 so far)
and workshops, story telling and further family entertainment during the
afternoons, including jugglers, Punch and Judy, stilt walkers, face
painting and balloon sculptures can be found at www.blackhorsemusicfestival.org.uk
or from Hastings
Tourist
Information Centre on 01424 78 11
11.
There is a bar with real ales, and
a barbecue a free car park and free bus to and from Battle Railway Station and
local camp sites. The festival is under cover in huge marquees and has a big
main stage, huge light and sound system but is still a small intimate friendly
festival described as “the biggest little festival in
Britain” a decade
ago in the national press. It has
grown in stature but not in size.
WE NEED
VOLUNTEERS To help on site prior to, during, and after the
weekend.
We need to let
everyone know that the festival is happening after rumours that we may have
met our demise.
We need people
to help distribute our programme throughout the
area.
We also need
sponsors as we need money for many things including promotion, (who
doesn't).
We are offering
a gold, silver and bronze package with passes for
the weekend, in return we can put logos on our 12,000 programmes and in
our publicity plus display banners at the festival. It is a great
festival to be associated with.
Please
encourage anyone who may be able to help to contact
me.
Please
encourage any members of the press to contact me
also as...
... PICTURES and
QUOTES are available from the website at
wwwblackhorsemusicfestival.co.uk
Or 01424
429840
WE may also be
able to provide press passes etc.
Thank you for
your support and please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any
further help…
