Subject: John Harvey tunes session, 6th Feb, and beyond

Dear Everyone,

JOHN HARVEY ENGLISH TUNES SESSION, TUESDAY 6TH. FEBRUARY

The next session at the John Harvey Tavern, Bear Yard, Lewes BN7 2AN will be on Tuesday 6th. February from 8.00 pm until closing time. if you would like to lead one of these sessions, which are always on the first Tuesday evening of the month, let me know.

TUNES SESSION led by ANDY WARBURTON, LEWES ARMS FOLK CLUB, SATURDAY 10TH. FEBRUARY
To celebrate the reprinting of Andy's Lewes Favourites Tune Book, he leads a tunes session. Bring instruments to join in. Party pieces and singers are welcome too.

TUNES SESSION led by ROGER DIGBY, LEWES ARMS FOLK CLUB, SATURDAY 31ST. MARCH
Roger Digby is an excellent Anglo concertina player. He was part of the splendid and influential 'Flowers and Frolics' band with Dan Quinn, and has worked for many years with Bob Davenport. Bring instruments to join in; again, singers will be welcome too.

Roger would like to introduce four tunes which may not be familiar to everyone; he's sent mp3 files of him playing all of them and abc notation for three of them. They are Chelmsford Races, Mrs. O'Dwyer's  Fancy, McCuskers Barndance, and Lucy Farr's Polka No. 1. The abc notation follows: let me know if you'd like the mp3 files of Roger playing the tunes let me know.

N:You'll notice a similarity with Hullichan Jig in the B part though it's not quite the same. The tune is in the Thomas Hardy collection, though seemingly unknown in its native Chelmsford - a fact I am trying to remedy.
