JULIE FOWLIS
Fri 6 Apr 8pm
£13.50 (£11.50)
Can someone singing mostly in Scots Gaelic really make a mark on the music mainstream? Originally you'd say no, but Julie Fowlis from North Uist in the Outer Hebrides sings with such mesmerising beauty and passion, you wouldn't bet against her" Word Magazine February 2006
BBC Radio 2 Horizon Winner Julie Fowlis hails from the remote island of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides. The first Gaelic artist ever to be nominated for a coveted BBC Radio 2 Folk Award, and voted Gaelic Singer of the Year 2005 at the Scots Trad Music Awards, Julie only recently released her critically acclaimed debut solo album, "mar a tha mo chridhe/as my heart is", which features Eamon Doorley, Iain MacDonald, John McCusker and John Doyle amongst many others. Not only is she an award winning Gaelic singer but Julie is recognised as a fine instrumentalist as well, playing bagpipes, whistles and even has an honours degree in music, with performances on oboe and coranglais. She has performed with some of the finest musicians in the business and continues to enthusiastically bring Gaelic music and song to new audiences all over the world ....
