Tenterden Folk Festival 2006

Festival draw:

For the first time this year we are running on big Festival draw with a number of highly desirable prizes.  The top prize is an acoustic guitar supplied by Festival sponsors Hobgoblin Music who will also have a stall selling their wide range of guitars, melodeons, concertinas and other music instruments in the Woolpack barn.  The guitar is a Blueridge BR-40D Contemporary acoustic guitar worth over £300.  Other top prizes will include a selection of CDs donated by festival guests and Co-Op Group store vouchers to the value of £50.00.  Other prizes will be announced over the next couple of weeks and are likely to include a selection of items from some of the other stalls n the craft fair.  If any local shops or venues would like to donate a prize for the festival fundraising draw please let us know.  Tickets are already available from committee members and will be on sale at most venues and at the craft fair over the festival weekend.  The draw will be made by an independent person on Sunday 8th October 2006.

Craft fair and stall:

The festival craft fair will, as usual, be held in the Assembly Rooms, upstairs in the Town Hall on Saturday and Sunday and there will also be an expanded selection of folk sales stalls in the Woolpack Barn and stalls in the lower High Street.  The craft stalls will include the usual wide range of traditional and contemporary crafts such as woodturning, greetings cards, jewellery, ceramics, aroma therapy and much more.  New to the festival this year are "Hot Crocs" who offer the opportunity for customers to paint their own designs on mugs, plates, tea-pots, etc, and Hot Crocs will then glaze and fire them so they are usable and dishwasher proof.  They also sell their own range of ceramics as do “La Ceramica” who are occupying the whole of the Town Hall stage

In the Woolpack barn will be a variety of folk sales stalls including Festival sponsors Hobgoblin Music and Elephant Records, together with Thrift Music and Robin Greenwood, selling a very wide range of acoustic instruments ranging from guitars to mandolins and dulcimers, concertinas and melodeons to bodhrans.  Also in the barn will be Hedingham Fair selling their very popular range of folklore greetings cards, prints, calendars, tee shirts and books

In the lower High Street stalls will be selling clothes, jewellery, shoes, fudge, pickles and a wide variety of popular goods.  Some of the stall holders are local residents from Tenterden and the surrounding villages but many will have travelled from as far as Dorset, Essex and the north of England.

Keith Kendrick, Pete Castle and Educational workshops.

A late addition to the bill for the Friday evening concert is the ever popular Keith Kendrick, who although now resident in his native Derbyshire, is very well known around Kent, having lived in the area for a spell and being a regular guest at both Tenterden Folk Festival and Broadstairs Folk Week.  Keith is also joining Pete Castle for two days of folk song and dance workshops for the students at Homewood School and Sixth Form Centre on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th October.  Later in October we are also providing workshops for schools in Great Chart and Thanet.
