Hello Again

Lots of new info here, put your slippers on, grab a cuppa and make yourself comfy.
We had a really lovely evening on Friday with Paul Downes supported by Sarah Reed. Not quite a full room but almost, and I from what I've heard so far everyone really enjoyed it. Thanks to them both for coming and providing such high class entertainment, and my thanks to everyone who came along and gave them such a warm reception. Paul was very relaxed and engaging and I think has a lovely voice and amazing skill with a guitar (and mandocello). It was good to hear 'Exile' and 'Braunton Burrows' from 'The Path'.

New Folk in the Barn member Dave Shephard from Lyminge, old friend and ex neighbour of Paul Downes in fact! is also a promoter of excellent live music and has organised a gig with the wonderful 'Kangaroo Moon' who some of you may have heard of.

Next at the Kingston Barn........

Chris & Kellie While supported by Kevin Barber & Mark Taylor Saturday 30th September.
Chris & Kellie have got just about the best female voices you are likely to hear, and that's no exaggeration, they are truly wonderful and continue to improve. I am green with envy. Chris did a wonderful solo set at Abbotsbury the weekend before last, culminating in a rare performance with Steve Knightley of his beautiful sad song of love gone wrong, the haunting and moving 'Dark Fields', one of my all time favourite SK songs.
Not only are these two amazing performers going to be in the Barn but supporting them are two guys who I think will impress you hugely when you hear them. Kevin and Mark were bought to my attention about 6 months ago, I've seen them perform and have been playing their cd almost continuously ever since. Extremely talented musicians, their voices complement each other perfectly, full of expression, emotion and harmonies that raise the hairs on the backs of your ears!! (if you've got them) They perform an eclectic range of roots music, energised by driving bluegrass rhythms, tinged with melancholy Americana. Playing slide guitar, mandolin, banjo and lap resonator guitar, the duo have established a reputation for dynamic live performance. I'd agree with that. And they are very nice guys too!!
www.barber-taylor.co.uk I really can't wait for this gig.
This will be another unmissable evening I think, and I fully expect it to sell out. Don't leave it too late to get your tickets, they are as usual for the Barn - £10 , full ordering details on the website www.folkinthebarn.co.uk (cheques to D Earl please plus SAE)
I can't end without reminding you all of my favourite week of the year - next month sees the start of Broadstairs Folk week. How can it be a year since the last one?? They've got a superb line-up this year. Lots of personal favourites and many new ones to discover. Seth Lakeman, Last Nights Fun, Demon Barbers, Feast of Fiddles to name but a few. Get a prog from local bookshops or online at www.broadstairsfolkweek.org.uk
Oh and the monthly Fibbers music group is this coming Thursday 20th July at Clive's house in Marshside. Clive has a lovely big garden with a stage!!! Should be great fun, I'll be there. Email me for directions if you are interested. All are most welcome, no talent required!
Thanks for enduring!
Stay Cool
