It's sometimes easy to become blasé about
artists we have seen several times before......that's the case with Dave Sutherland perhaps. However, the first time the Crawley Blues Club
audience saw him, when he supported Delta Moon there last year, they were blown
away by him. Dave has appeared alongside such great musicians as Bert Jansch, Eric Bibb, Glenn Tilbrook & Billy Ray Cyrus
& has quite a following in The States....he
tours there most years, basing himself in Atlanta. Two River Times wrote
"Dave has had no less than five tracks off his
superb album American Refrigerator play-listed by the BBC after a chance meeting
with Radio 2's Bob Harris & Dave Cash has riddled the airwaves since
acquiring his copy". The Evening Standard
went on ~ "A newcomer to me, Dave Sutherland's
support slot for Eric Bibb was a revelation ~ here we have the Jamie Oliver of
the Blues!"
Dave has kindly stepped into the breach &
offered to perform for us at The Bottleneck in Maidstone on Friday 14th along
with some friends he's played with over the years. This will not be a
traditional Blues night but a night of Americana, Folk, Country
& Contemporary music with a good helping of Blues thrown in for good
measure. He is joined by Paul "Lefty" Furnace
on guitar ~ Time Out said "PLF is one of those rare guitarists, fantastic on acoustic or
electric, right-handed or left-handed! His melodic riffs & fills make
him the perfect guitar side-man". Support
this night is provided by a prodigious new talent Siobhan Parr who Dave has been raving
about for months......"In the stage spotlight
effortless vocals pour out over her guitar.....audiences this year have stumbled
across a true gem. If you don't believe me try asking an 800 strong crowd
at Shepherd's Bush Empire who gave her a standing ovation. Siobhan Parr is
a true talent & she doesn't even have to try" ~ Music Times. Her credits include touring with Jimmy Cliff to
recording with Alabama 3 & I can't wait to hear
her.
Right guys & gels.....this really is the
last gig before we close for the summer (not re-opening until Sept 26th with The
Ian Siegal Band at The Roffen). I've put this gig on in response to a
clammer from several Maidstone regulars who felt left out by not having a gig in
July....none of whom have booked a table!!!...........Come on folks, the bloody
football's over, the tennis is finished for another year & I have it on good
authority that the televised Neasden Bushkazi match has been cancelled this
night so what else is there to do? Ciaran has finished his restaurant
refurbishment (you have GOT to see the new restaurant decor....it's sort of
Louis 14th meets Genghis Khan....amazing!) so you don't have to brave any of the
iffy establishments I sent you to last time.
John.
Loads of
stuff on Google about Siobhan.
