Bringing Alive Sandwich Heritage

MEDIEVAL NIGHTS

Sandwich will be resounding with old tales and ancient tunes this August Bank Holiday weekend. The cinque port’s historic Guildhall will be the setting for two evening events during the town’s Medieval Mayhem celebrations.

EARLY MUSIC CONCERT
Early music ensemble MISERICORDIA will be performing as part of the festival on Friday 25th August. The group play a variety of authentic instruments including hurdy gurdy, gothic harp and citole. Their programme will explore dynamic dance music and song
from 14th century Italy, Spain, France and England.

MEDIEVAL TALES
On Saturday 26th August the town will host an evening of medieval tales with internationally renowned storyteller BEN HAGGARTY. It will be a welcome return to Sandwich for the dynamic performer, who appeared in the town’s Winter Tales festival in January this year. Haggarty’s dramatic work draws on the rich oral tradition of storytelling for adults, with tales that have been kept alive by storytellers since the Middle Ages.
