“A right nice bloke” joins Kimber’s Men at Tenterden Folk Festival 2006

Kimber’s Men will be amongst the guests at Tenterden Folk Festival 2006 from 6th to 8th October.  Although Joe Stead has featured on the guest list before this is the first time that Kimber’s Men have been to Tenterden.  Since they were booked they have become a four piece outfit again.  They have been joined by David Buckley, who according to Joe is “a right nice bloke” and is also a member of The Halifax Choral Society, an actor at The Halifax Playhouse and a director of plays as well.  David has been around the northern music scene for more years than he cares to remember.  He started after leaving school with a local band and after a few years turned professional, touring all the night clubs and dance halls in the country as well as in Europe and managing to take in all the American air bases.  He played in a country rock band for many years interspersed with folk club gigs with a number of friends and different outfits and even played Flugel horn with a local brass band.  With Kimber’s Men his main talent is that he can sing tenor harmony so when they saw him playing the part of Captain Smith in “Titanic the Musical” they made a grab for his shirt tails before he went down with the ship and disappeared completely beneath the waves.

A new Kimber’s Men CD has also just been released and features 70 minutes of sea shanties and songs about the sea.  The 25 tracks include Haul away Joe, La Pique, Don’t take the heroes, Yellow girls, Frobisher Bay, Northwest Passage, Harry Eddom, Bold Riley, Blow the man down, Lovely Nancy, South Australia, Death of Nelson, Maryport, Tom’s gone to Hilo, Sam’s gone away, General Taylor, Get along down buddy, No more auction block, Quiet as the grave, Johnson girls, Amphitrite, Rolling home, Go to sea no more, Roseanna and Leave her Johnny leave her. £1 for every CD sold goes to the RNLI who are also distributing the CD through their chain of shops and through their catalogue outlets.
